Printer Drivers and ICC Paper Profiles

Printer Drivers - These are the basic printer driver programs that must be installed on your computer so that your printer works with your computer to produce printed pages.  These printer drivers, in most cases, allow you to select the type of paper you are printing on - these selections are called "Paper Profiles".  By telling the computer the type of paper you have in your printer, the computer tells the printer how much ink to apply to that paper.  Printer drivers do a great job and for most users are quite sufficient.

ICC Profiles - International Color Consortium profiles have been made for many papers not included in the Epson, HP or Canon printer driver profiles that came with your printer.  The ICC was established in 1993 to standardize color management and develop ICC profile specifications.  There is a wealth of information and excellent teaching material on the ICC website  www.color.org
